It’s hard to find a clean candle free from hidden chemicals. Wicks can contain heavy metals, even lead, and synthetic fragrances can cause reactions like asthma flare-ups, headache, nausea and more.

Most candles on the market contain these chemicals. There’s no obligation to disclose what’s inside. Even candles labelled as containing essential oils commonly include synthetic bases!

There’s no aromatherapy benefit from synthetic fragrances. If it’s not real lavender, it won’t have the same effect as an Essential Oil. Instead of creating the warm, welcoming, comfortable space you yearn for, instead, you’re stuck with unknown chemicals and potential impacts on your health.

At Iris & Aura we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in the safety of what you bring into your home – especially products like candles that are designed to enter your airspace. Some chemicals used in commercial candles even have safety warnings like “Do not inhale” which is problematic for something being burnt and released into the air!

About Emily: owner of Iris & Aura

On moving to Australia, I wanted a candle that was made from natural ingredients, used only pure essential oils for fragrance, and with botanical, earthy scents.

Synthetic-fragranced candles irritated my body, causing headaches and itchy eyes – and the chemical fragrances were often too strong, overpoweringly sweet and being synthetic did not achieve the aromatherapy benefits I craved.

I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I didn’t want my candles to contain the lead or other metals that are commonly found in the wicks of mass-produced candles, nor use paraffin wax (a chemical derived from the petroleum industry).

That’s why I started making my own candles: using only pure cotton eco wicks, a blend of coconut wax (the purest, most eco-friendly wax on the market) with soy wax (for stability in Australia’s warm climate), and pure essential oils.

Step 1: Choose your fragrance. Do you prefer something earthy, fresh or floral? How do you want to feel? All Iris & Aura candles use only Pure Essential Oils for blends. Do you want to feel calm, relaxed, focused, energised or grounded?

Step 2. Choose whether you will buy you candles as needed, or using our handy subscription service. Save up to 10% off when you order your favourite candle on subscription, and relax knowing you’ll never run out. We also sell refills for your candle, as we believe in being eco-friendly in all our practices, and our candle vessels are designed to be reused.

Iris & Aura candles are guaranteed to contain no nasties: we use only Pure Essential Oils (no synthetic fragrances or bases), a blend of coconut wax and soy wax (no paraffin / petroleum-based waxes), and pure cotton eco-wicks (no heavy metals or mercury).

All our candles come in a reusable jar that is designed to be refilled. You can buy a refill of your favourite candle in our shop.
